Gautam Gambhir made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in Dhaka in April 2003 and made a scintillating 71 for which he won the Man of the Match award. He made his Test debut in November 2004 against Australia in Mumbai and soon made his maiden Test century against Bangladesh in December 2004.
He then lost his form against the Sri Lankans and was subsequently dropped from the team. He even did not find his place in the 2007 World Cup events. But was selected to play against Bangladesh in 2007 where he discovered his form and scored a magnificent second century. He subsequently merited his inclusion in the team against Ireland
